Stubaier Gletscher – Austria’s largest glacier ski area

Aside from one single run, all trails on Stubaier Gletscher span the high-altitude band between 2,300 and 3,210 metres above sea level. Snow is guaranteed here from October through to June, and the ski area’s “Kingdom of Snow” slogan couldn’t be more apt. Over 60 of the 70 trail kilometres are rated blue or red (as of March 2016), offering an above-average range of runs for less experienced skiers. With numerous additional offerings for families, such as the “Big Family Camp”, the highest ski area in the Stubai Valley has emerged as a great destination for families with children in recent years. But if you think that this ski area would only be of interest for beginners, think again. Stubaier Gletscher more than impressed us in the freeride category too. Take a look at our lowdown for each individual test category to see how we rated the ski area overall.

Great end to the season
It was great for our last ski trip of the winter. Even at the end of April there was still plenty of snow and the slopes were perfectly groomed. There wasn't much going on either.

More appearance than reality
The ski area has beautiful long runs and wide pistes... that's it, even for very good skiers it's boring here on the piste after a day at the latest as everything is very flat. Lifts like to be clo... Read complete review

Great ski area with great slopes.
Well developed, hardly any trails. Varied slopes. Many ski routes with demanding sections. But also some beginner slopes. Nice wide and long slopes. Great price-performance ratio.A nice freestyle area.

Super also in May
We were at the Stubai Glacier for the first time because it still snowed so much there in May. It was awesome. We will be back in winter, when all the slopes are open.

Grooming Pistes
Despite the best weather, no piste without a strong hump. At least the central blue slopes should be much better prepared. Too little use for money.

Top marks for beginners, families and advanced skiers!
The Stubai Glacier tracks are highly recommended for beginners due to the wide range of blue pistes. Even advanced skiers are more than adequately demanded by the many lift systems. Pros will have ... Read complete review
