The Cross-Country Area
At Planica Nordic Center, cross-country skiers find 7km/4.3mi of challenging tracks. Further trails go between Kranjska Gora, Rateče and Tamar, which makes up to 40km/24,9mi available.
You can even go cross-country skiing here during the summer. The underground ski tunnel features another 800m/875yd of tracks. The tunnel stretches over three storeys, and is cooled down to -2°C. As needed, natural or artificial snow is used to groom the indoor trail. The ski tunnel is open daily from 9 am to 5 pm, on the weekends to 6 pm.
Planica is also World Cup venue for ski jumping and cross-country skiing.
Interesting facts
- The high point of the cross-Country skiing area is located at an elevation of 1,100 m.
- Snow coverage is usually best during February, offering an average snow depth of 63 cm at summit elevation and 13 cm at the base.

Planica is located at the trijunction of Slovenia, Italy and Austria, 25km/15.5mi from Villach. The ski resort Kranjska Gora is also located in close proximity.
