The Cross-Country Area
S. Caterina is the ideal place for cross-country skiing set in a friendly fairy-tale atmosphere. The Valtellina track has 5 and 10 km circuits, important international competitions and numerous World Cup races have been held here. The track winds at an altitude of 1800 metres, across a wide plane and through thick woods, it has demanding ups and downs with vertical drops between 109 and 390 metres. The course has original innovative technical solutions among which the famous demanding downhill trail, a real slalom. Nearby the competitive track there is the 8 km tourist track where for a distance they coincide, the tourist track has 2 – 3- 5 km circuits, it is easy and always fascinatingly panoramic, immersed in S.Caterina’s century old cembran pine woods. The high altitude and the particular sun exposure guarantee perfectly snow covered trails which are carefully groomed every day. The “Centro La Fonte” was constructed to help support the cross-country skiers, it is fitted out with change-rooms, showers, clothes and equipment deposit, waxing room and technical assistance carried out directly by the ski-instructors who can give expert advise on the type of equipment and wax to use.
