The Ski Resort
The Araucarias is a ski resort located at the foot of the Llaima volcano. There are ten different slopes for all levels of difficulty on around 15 kilometres of slopes. It is also suitable for beginners and children, since more than half of the slopes are easy. There are four lifts in total, including three T-bar lifts and one chairlift. Additionally, a ski rental and ski school with a practice lift are available in the area.
A special feature of the Llaima volcano is that it is one of Chile's most active volcanoes. The nature around Araucarias is part of the Conguillío National Park. It is also known as "Los Paraguas". The umbrellas in this phrase resemble the shapes of the numerous Araucarias. In the valley of the ski area, you are already greeted by these characteristic trees. However, the slopes are all above the tree line.
The valley stations of Araucarias are dotted with numerous hotels, restaurants, and cafes. There is even a small medical facility available in case of accidents. Skiers can find two more restaurants at the mountain stations of the "Silla" and "Ancla" lifts.
