At 1.456m the Großer Arber is the highest mountain in the Bavarian Forest and home to an outstanding family ski resort, which is a perfect destination for beginner skiers. Especially the renewed and enlarged Kids Zone called ArBär-Kinderland with a whopping five magic carpets scored in our test. The quiet area, comparatively low prices as well as gentle, snow-sure and well-groomed slopes in the western part of the ski resort suit ski novices best. The fact that the restaurants and mountain huts are distributed evenly throughout the ski resort is also remarkable and had a favorable effect on our test result.
Fans of Après-Ski, freestyle skiing and freeriding will not find paradise at Arber ski resort. Although intermediate and expert skiers certainly have great fun on the more difficult slopes (FIS Alpine Ski World Cup), there are some acres of skiable terrain missing in order to be able to provide even more variety and challenging runs especially for skiers on the more experienced side.
It is safe to say that families with kids and beginners will not find a better ski resort in the Bavarian Forest. All other skiing fans should definitely give this area a try. It’s worth it.
