If you’ve been skiing in the USA before, you will probably already know that the après ski atmosphere at the lodges is not quite the same as in Tyrol. However, visiting Mammoth Mountain doesn’t mean that partygoers and night owls have to do without. The insider tip on the mountain is Steeps Bar at the McCoy Station – locals like to drink a Bloody Mary on the sun terrace with unspoilt views of the “Top of the Sierra”, the highest point in the ski area. You can take the gondola back down into the valley from here until 5 PM. The Village and the base lodges provide several typical American bars with regular live music. Tusks Bar and Yodler are located at the base station of the Goldrush Express. Tusks Bar is a sports bar with a sun deck which regularly shows major sporting events. It is particularly popular with younger people. Europeans craving the taste of home in Mammoth should look no further than Yodler, which serves typical Bavarian cuisine and beer.
After the lifts close: Nightlife in the Village
Lakanuki at Minaret Road 6201 in the Village offers up the unique combination of Caribbean spirit in Alpine surroundings. This is a great place to enjoy drinks in the afternoon in a chilled-out atmosphere. After sundown, the bar usually transforms into a bona fide nightclub which is open well into the early hours. Another hidden gem is the Clocktower Cellar below the tower of the Alpenhof Lodge directly across from the Village Gondola. Here you can choose from a whopping 75 types of beer and more than 160 types of whiskey.
