The Ski Resort
In the district of Hartberg in Styria is the small ski area Mönichwald Hochwechsellifte. For skiing and snowboarding there are a total of 5.5 kilometres of slopes available. The 1.5 kilometres of blue marked slopes are especially suitable for beginners. Experienced skiers will get their money's worth on the four medium-difficulty kilometres of slopes. The four ski lifts take you up to 1300 metres. The lowest point of the ski area is at about 1000 meters. 24 snow cannons ensure optimal piste conditions throughout the season.
Interesting facts
- The vertical drop from summit to base is 300 m. The average difference in altitude between base and summit of Ski Resorts in Austria is 719 m. Runs and slopes are therefore relatively short. The high point of the ski resort is located at an elevation of 1,300 m.
- Average snow depth during the season is 54 cm at summit elevation and 44 cm at base elevation. Snow coverage is usually best during January, offering an average snow depth of 61 cm at summit elevation and 51 cm at the base.
- Mönichwald Hochwechsellifte features 35 sunny days on average per season. The average for all ski Resorts in Austria is 35 sunny days. January is the sunniest month with an average of 17 sunny days.

On Mondays and Fridays night skiing is offered from 19 to 21 o'clock.
Activities
The Mönichwald Hochwechsellifte ski area has a total of 12 kilometres of cross-country and skating trails. The Panorama Höhenloipe is floodlit and can therefore still be used after the ski lifts have come to an end.
Sledding is also possible in the Mönichwald ski area. The 1 km long toboggan run guarantees snow fun for the whole family.
The alternative sports offer in the ski area is rounded off by ice skating and curling.
Après-Ski and Nightlife
In order to end the skiing day perfectly, a visit to the "Ochsenloch" is worthwhile. In the probably most rustic ski hut of the region you can get to know the Austrian Après Ski. In addition to drinks, regional specialities are also offered there.

Getting here
Coming from Graz you take the A2 until exit 116-Hartberg in the direction of Hartberg/B50. At the first roundabout you drive on the B50. At the next two roundabouts take the second exit. Leave the next roundabout at the first exit and drive onto the B54, which you leave at the exit Rohrbachschlag. Continue on the L405 to Mönichwald. Turn right onto the "Ortsdurchfahrts-Weg" and continue towards Hochwechsellifte.
