For intermediate skiers Mt Dobson is recommendable for a one day excursion!
Mt Dobson does not belong to the most famous ski resorts in New Zealand. Skilled skiers can in fact discover more in the larger ski resorts around Queenstown (The Remarkables, Coronet Peak, Cardrona and Treble Cone). Still we recommend skilled skiers to visit Mt Dobson at least for a day. Mt Dobson provides this atmosphere of tranquillity and cosiness which makes skiing in New Zealand so unique more than the larger and more frequented ski resorts around Queenstown. However the number of slopes will only satisfy good skiers for one day (and Fairlie is not a hot spot in the après ski department either) therefore a longer stay is not recommendable. Great slopes are the black (difficult) runs in the “Downhill” and “Shirt Front” area! The intermediate terrain (marked blue) is little challenging. However visitors to the ski resort are rewarded with an absolutely breathtaking view of the “Lake Pukaki” and “Lake Tekapo” up to the glaciers at the Mt Cook Massif.
