The Ski Resort
Rainbow Ski Area is one of the most beautiful ski and best value resorts in New Zealand´s Southern Alps. High in the north of this great mountain chain within the world famous Nelson & Marlborough lifestyle region.
Reaching a height of over 1760 metres, Rainbow captures regular winter snow, complemented by extensive snow making, all superbly groomed to create a stunning winter playground.
The wide uncrowded slopes and well groomed trails provide superb terrain for beginners and intermediates, while advanced skiers can challenge themselves in the high powder runs and shutes. Snowboarders love the varied terrain, jumps, bumps and drops.
Interesting facts
- The vertical drop from summit to base is 218 m. The average difference in altitude between base and summit of Ski Resorts in New Zealand is 471 m. Runs and slopes are therefore relatively short. The ski resort takes you to an elevation of 1,758 m.
- Snow coverage is usually best during September, offering an average snow depth of 72 cm at summit elevation and 51 cm at the base.
- Rainbow Ski Area features 20 sunny days on average per season. The average for all ski Resorts in New Zealand is 17 sunny days. August is the sunniest month with an average of 12 sunny days.
