The Ski Resort
The most comfortable way to get from a big city into a ski resort is probably Tochal gondola. Over 7.5km/4.7mi and three sections, it gets winter sportsmen from the Iranian capital Teheran to the 3,850m/12,631ft high ski resort Tochal. During the ride, you enjoy a breathtaking view of Teheran as well as the highest mountain of the Alborz mountains, Damawand (5,604m/18,386ft).
Once on Teheran's local mountain, snow sports enthusiasts find two blue runs. The first one starts at 3,850m/12,631ft above sea level, and can be reached with a Doppelmayr chair lift. The recond run is 900m/2,953ft long and starts at 3,750m/12,303ft, at the top station of the Poma chair lift. Furthermore, the plateau-like area features a snowboard park with halfpipes. You can get back to the gondola's mid-station on an intermediate run, which is only skiable with enough snow (usually between late December and February).
Next to the chair lifts' base stations you can find the restaurant Tochal, which also has 30 rooms for overnight guests. Another restaurant is located at the mid-station of the gondola.
