Vermont is the perfect state for skiing! 19 of the US athletes competing in the Winter Olympics in Sochi were born and raised in Vermont - a state right in the heart of New England. You'll find everything you need for an exciting day on the slopes here. Located in the gorgeous Green Mountains, the highest peak in Vermont is Mount Mansfield, which stands at 4,393 ft (1,339 m). The resort Killington, also called the "Beast of the East", is extremely popular and the largest resort in the state with some 140 runs. The resort boasts no less than 6 terrain parks, so the freestylers among you should feel most at home here. Freeriding fans should check out Sugarbush. The backcountry accessable from its six summits is ideal for some deep-snow fun. Families, on the other hand, are well catered for in the smaller resorts such as Mad River Glen and Smuggler's Notch.
Vermot is also a veritable paradise for cross-country skiers: countless fascinating trails lead through the hills of the rugged and untouched Green Mountains. There are plenty of activities waiting for you away from the slopes in this part of the world, with winter hikes, horse sleigh rides, wellness and much more besides.
The best way to reach Vermont is to fly to Burlington International Airport, though onward travel from New York is also straightforward.
