A lot has been done at the Canadian ski resort Whistler Blackcomb over the past few months. Thanks to a historic $66 million CAD investment, three new lifts start for the winter season 2018/2019. Let us show you all the novelties you can look forward to!
The New Blackcomb Gondola
Wizard Express and Solar Coaster chair lifts have been replaced with a modern 10-person gondola, going up 1,870 metres (6,135 ft) from the Upper Village. The top station is located right next to the PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola that gets you over to neighbouring Whistler Mountain. Not only does the gondola increase lift capacity by almost 50%, it also offers a comfortable and sheltered ride up to Rendezvous Lodge all year round.
New Chair Lifts Cut Wait Times
Another addition on Blackcomb Mountain, the new Catskinner High Speed Quad makes wait times considerably shorter. The 4-person chair starts underneath Magic Castle and ends next to the new gondola's top station. At the Family Zone on Whistler Mountain, kids now spend less time queueing, and more time practising their turns on the snow. Starting with the new season, the new high-speed 6-person chair Emerald Express replaces the old Green Chair. At Roundhouse Lodge Umbrella Bar's new terrace right next door, 60 seats invite you to a lunch break with panoramic view.
Canada's Largest Ski Resort
Whistler Blackcomb is one of Canada's top ski resorts, and the largest resort in North America. On the two eponymous mountains Blackcomb and Whistler, winter sports enthusiasts can find 240 runs for all skill levels, 16 bowls, and three glaciers, on 3,300 hectares of skiable terrain. Blackcomb and Whistler Mountain are connected through the impressive PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola, going right over Fitzsimmons Creek. Vail Resorts has invested a total of $66 million CAD. That's about €44 million.
