Over the years, no one shaped the North Italian winter sport destination Livigno as strongly as the Giacomelli family. What started as a single hotel in the village's center has grown into a large complex consisting of hotels , restaurants and fashion stores. The Giacomellis keep producing new ideas to attract more and more customers. A night at the Snow Chalet is definitely one of those special highlights!
Lungolivigno: From small business to corporation
Livigno is one of the most famous ski resorts in the Alpine region, with hotels and shops stretching through the entire duty-free town. This wasn't always the case, however. When Emilio Giacomelli opened Hotel Concordia, he was one of the village's first hotel operators.
Gradually, the number of tourists starts growing and the family business reaches full capacity. Giacomelli's seven children grow up to be young adults who study abroad and return to take their place in the firm. More hotels and fashion stores are added and the former family business becomes Lungolivigno SPA. The Giacomelli family grow with their company: 18 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren are part of the family today.
Talking to Fabio Giacomelli, Emilio's second-youngest son and Lungolivigno SPA's director, one can't tell whether he's more proud of his firm or his family. His heart and soul belongs to both, which is probably the secret to the family's success.

Livigno ski resort: All eyes on the 2026 Winter Olympics
The two mountain railway companies in Livigno, Mottolino and Carosello 3000, combine 115 kilometers (71 miles) of runs. About half of these runs are marked red though, which means that mostly advanced skiers will feel at home there. Various terrain parks and funlines complete the winter sport experience.
Livigno will be hosting the snowboard and freestyle events during the 2026 Winter Olympics. Small stadiums will be built in Mottolino, Sitas-Tagliede and Carosello 3000 specifically for these competitions. Livigno will also be one of the sites for an Olympic village, next to Milan and Cortina. Mottolino and Carosello 3000 are located on opposite sides of the village and are not connected so far. For the Olympic Games in 2026 this is set to change, though – A connection rail is being planned.
