Ski all day, party all night – an unforgettable ski vacation is not just about powder, it is also about what to do and where to go after spending a day on the slopes. Some ski resorts' names are synonymous with après-ski and nightlife, and – whether you like it or not - partying will be in your DNA once you get to one of these hot spots in the Alps. So, buckle up. Here they are: Our top 10!
Sölden
Sölden and après basically go hand in hand. The après scene is very lively and takes many forms here, from chatting with friends over a pint (or two) at the Kuckuck (Sölden's “N°1 Après-Ski Bar in Town“) to dancing on the table to live music. Sölden has it all! Whether you pay a visit to the Ice Bar Philipp or party all night with Tim Toupet, Mickie Krause, and Olaf Henning at Fire & Ice, Sölden rocks après-ski. Make sure to not miss out on the Kuckuck and the Electric Mountain Festival with world-class DJs in early April.
Ischgl
Say “Ischgl“ and you probably think of – yes – the Ibiza of the Alps! Ischgl takes partying to the next level, embracing après with unrivalled enthusiasm. Ever heard of Paznauner Taja? This slope-side hut is where to stop first after a long day on the slopes. And, hell yeah, does it put skiers in the party mood. Who's into table-top dancing, shots, shots, - and oh – shots, should go check out Schatzi, Kitzloch, Kuhstall, Niki's Stadl, Pacha, or the legendary Trofana Alm. You don't come here for a quick stop! Mark your calendars for the season closing when it's time for some “Top of the Mountain Concert“ action.
Mayrhofen
Things are really happening in Mayrhofen! Dozens of umbrella bars, ice bar, Nicki's Schirmbar, the Hiatamadl, and Yeti Bar are all well-known and popular among fans of après. Enjoy some live music, dance in your ski boots (or sock feet), or enjoy one of the incredibly awesome events at Harakiri Bar. Brückenstadl is for big-time partying with live music, DJs, and a lot of dancing. So, yes, there's some wild après-ski action. (Psst! Speak Easy Arena and Schlüssel Alm are great spots as well!)
Saalbach Hinterglemm
If there's a place that rocks from early on, it is Saalbach Hinterglemm! The “Home of Lässig“ is certainly among the best après ski spots in the Alps. Bauer's Schi Alm, an old cow shed with attached umbrella bars, and 12er Treff are always packed! Dance in your ski boots with DJ Mick at Hinterhagalm or enjoy live Schlager music at Mega-Wallegalm – if you've never heard of Mickie Krause before, no worries; by the end of the night you will sing his songs by heart! Goaßstall is another après venue worth-visiting!
Kitzbühel
Kitzbühel is another après hotspot where VIPs – ever heard of the former football legend Franz Beckenbauer? - and locals party until late in the night. Venues to pop in are Stamperl, Café Praxmair, Tenne, and Jimmys – to name but a few. The Londoner is packed full of English atmosphere and hence lives up to its name one hundred percent. Gatto Bello is where cocktails meet DJs and another spot we'd recommend. Club Take Five is where to go partying and shaking your leg. Those who haven't spent enough money yet and thus have still some to blow should go to the casino and clink glasses of champagne!
Schladming
In the northwest of the Austrian state of Styria, Schladming is not only a popular destination for tourists, but also a great spot for après-ski. Europe's biggest après hut, the Hohenhaus Tenne, makes for an outstanding party location on several floors. Ever heard of Bermuda Triangle? Yes, there are two: One in the Atlantic Ocean, where tons of aircrafts and ships are said to have disappeared, and another one in the middle of Schladming's pedestrian mall (Yes, this is a standing joke!).
St. Anton
St. Anton am Arlberg lies in the Tyrolean Alps and is another hotspot in terms of après-ski #allnightlong. MooserWirt is one of the most famous and most popular après venues in Austria with Peter Wackel, DJ Ötzi and Mickie Krause firing up their party people. Krazy Kanguruh, Didi Diesel (Yes, they gave everything they got when naming these venues!) and Piccadilly Bar are where to enjoy music and brews down-the-line. Bobo's, Anton Bar, and Kandahar are also worth checking out.
Obertauern
“Iiii'm coming up so you better get this party started“ - Obertauern is the place to be when it comes to partying with friends after a long day on the slopes. Edelweißhütte, Hochalm and Treff 2000 get you fired up with après-ski hits – things are really happening there! Lürzer Alm makes for a good mix of rustic, traditional mountain feeling and lively après-ski.
Zermatt
Zermatt's bars, clubs, and live music venues definitely cater to your après needs. Hennu Stall has a lively atmosphere and lies on your way off the mountain. Sometimes with live music, it makes for great evenings and après fun. In town, Papperla Pub is where candles are burned at both ends and oats are sown. The Pink Live Music Bar hosts concerts every now and then. Try Papa Ceasar, T-Bar, or Schneewittli for great music, atmosphere and cocktails.
Verbier
Concentrated in a comparable small number of venues, Verbier's après is still impressive. Lively huts, bars, pubs, and clubs, such as Le Rouge, Pub Mont Fort, Fer à Cheval or Farinet are part of Verbier's après melting pot. Whether it is a sunny terrace, large TVs showing sports, billiards, cocktails or great live bands to whose music you'd love to dance on the tables in your ski boots – après-ski is a big deal here.
