Many ski resorts offer special cable car experiences, such as fondue gondolas or jukebox gondolas. In Grindelwald, at the gateway to the Jungfrau region in Switzerland, two globally unique gondolas were opened in December 2023: The Ricola karaoke gondolas. Here, the way to the slopes becomes an unforgettable musical highlight in the Swiss Alps.
A musical journey through the mountains
On the 20-minute ride on the converted gondolas of the Grindelwald-Männlichen cable car, you can now not only enjoy the breathtaking view of the Bernese Alps, but also perform your favorite hits with up to seven fellow passengers.
With 36 songs to choose from, ranging from international stars such as ABBA, Queen and Taylor Swift to local legends such as Polo Hofer, you are guaranteed to find the right soundtrack for your ride. To ensure that your vocal chords hold out until the summit despite the vocal highlights, the popular Ricola herbal drops are of course available.
Karaoke fun for everyone
Incidentally, you don't need a special ticket for the two special gondolas. However, it is also not possible to make a reservation, which is why you can simply check the display board at the base station to see when the next karaoke gondola is ready.
Once inside, two microphones and a screen await your musical masterpieces. With the built-in camera, your alpine karaoke adventure can be captured in a souvenir photo if you wish. The waiting time until you can make your turns on the slopes of the Männlichen becomes an entertaining singing session.
Where the journey takes you
The 10-passenger Grindelwald-Männlichen gondola lift, where the karaoke gondolas are located, is perfect as a panoramic lift with its journey time of just under 20 minutes and magnificent views. The base station is in Grindelwald, which is a popular vacation destination for hikers, climbers, cross-country skiers and skiers alike. Thanks to the direct connection to local public transport, guests can easily arrive without a car.
Once at the top of the Männlichen, the magnificent view of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau triumvirate awaits you. The mountain station is not far from the Berghaus Männlichen, where you can indulge in culinary delights.
The ski area at a glance
Grindelwald-Wengen in the Jungfrau Region offers a fantastic panorama and is a large and popular ski area in the Swiss Alps with over 100 kilometers of pistes. The predominantly red-marked pistes offer advanced skiers and snowboarders plenty of variety and fantastic piste conditions.
For particularly ambitious winter sports enthusiasts, there are not only a few black-marked runs, but also the World Cup race course on the Lauberhorn, which is followed by a difficult slalom slope at the end. At the foot of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau, beginners will also get their money's worth.
