When people hear California they think of summer, sun and beach. But Sierra Nevada in the eastern part of the state provides top conditions for winter sport enthusiasts and is one of the most popular skiing regions in the US. In total, you can find 30 ski resorts there.
Especially Heavenly and Alpine Meadows are attracting lots of visitors. From most of the slopes you get a stunning view onto the Lake Tahoe and a big part of the ski resorts are powdered grounds. Numerous other ski areas in California make a skiers heart beat faster. Other famous resorts would be Palisades Tahoe where in 1960 the Winter Olympic Games took place or Northstar which is the home and the skiing resort of snowboard superstar Shaun White.
Reaching your goal is easiest when flying to Reno (Nevada) or to Sacramento (California). From there, it is a short trip to reach the ski resorts.
