Plenty of resorts have something going on or in stock for beginners, but Olympic Park has thought of nearly everything. Located right next to the base area, ski novices and beginners will find several magic carpets (five in number) making for great fun going uphill; moreover, these first-timer friendly lifts will get you to the resort's learning area.
It is unfortunate that their is no real kids zone as known from European ski resorts. However, once you've reached the beginner area, you'll find yourself right in front of the ski school, where instructors teach on beginner-only runs. Plus, the ski school's friendly attendants are always on hand and private as well as group lessons are offered for all ability levels for newbies, advanced or seasoned skiers and riders of all age groups.
Once you've found your legs in Olympic Park's dedicated learning area, you may want to move onto pistes that are cherry-picked for your level. Winsport is thus an excellent place to learn how to ski – if your skills go beyond those of newbies or beginners, you better consider skiing elsewhere, as the variety of runs is rather limited. What's more is that the chairlifts are quite outdated, Legacy Express does neither have a “child safety lock“ nor a foot rest for your skis and snowboard.
Nevertheless, we warmly recommend this ski area to every beginner, no matter if complete newbie or just not as experienced. The beginner area is outstanding, and the designated green run is groomed before any other. So give it a go – Calgary Olympic Park is definitely worth visiting!
