      Length trumps steepness in Suginohara

Myoko Kogen is perhaps not the ideal destination for advanced skiers looking to tackle steep and demanding slopes. The most challenging runs in Suginohara are probably the black-rated Super Giant/Mogul Courses in the upper reaches of the mountain, down from the Mitahara High-speed Lift no. 3. Nevertheless there is plenty of good intermediate terrain to explore here and the variety and length of the runs offer enough for a full day’s skiing. The 8.5 km long course also gives advanced skiers the opportunity to weave through the woodland in the upper section before taking some speed into the wide groomers lower down. This top-to-bottom run is a lot of fun and is sure to get those legs burning!

Ungroomed black runs in Akakura Kanko

Advanced skiers and snowboarders will probably enjoy the Akakura Kanko area of Myoko Kogen most. This part of the mountain also yields a great deal of variation and plenty of fun features in what is Myoko Kogen’s steepest sub-area. The eyes of expert skiers’ will likely be drawn to the ungroomed Hotel A Course and Champion A Course on first glance at the trail map. Both of these runs are really testy, but an absolute joy to ski for experienced skiers following heavy snowfall. The other black-rated run, Champion B Course, struck us as more intermediate than expert, but was still a lot of fun to ride. The intermediate Hotel C Course, Joshi Kokutai Course, Hotel B Course and Hotel Main Slope are all fantastic wide groomers for carving to your heart’s content.
