Nozawa Onsen has a range of nice options for families with young kids. As mentioned in the beginners category, the valley areas in Hikage, Nagasaka and Karasawa as well as the higher level Uenotaira area offer up gentle, wide groomers which are ideal for youngsters who are still learning the ropes. The resort even provides a free shuttle service, ferrying families between the Nagasaka and Hikage stations.
Plenty of options for kids and child care
There is also a small kids’ park close to the Hikage Station. It includes a number of inflatables and playful obstacles, while a magic carpet offers access the tubing area and the learners slope. This is an attractive and safe environment for young skiers, though its diminutive size makes it likely to be busy during peak times. If youngsters need a break to warm up, the free-of-charge “Naski Room” on the 2nd floor of the Hikage Trail Information Centre is ideal. The “Yumin” day care centre is another nice option for families with younger children. It provides day care by trained professionals (including some English speakers) for kids aged between 1 and 6 years old, allowing parents to hit the slopes. Please note that there are only 20 places available, so advanced reservations are recommended.
