World Cup Biathlon 2018/2019: Schedule, Dates and Venues

Once bitten, you seldom lose the Biathlon bug. Thousands of spectators and television viewers are proof that tons of people from all over the world do actually have a passionate interest in this type of sports. Here are the dates and venues for this season’s IBU Biathlon World Cup 2018/2019 and all results.

Right at the beginning of 2018/19 biathlon season, we see a major change: The athletes are not going to kick off the season in Oestersund, Sweden, as usually, but at the Slovenian town of Pokljuka (Dec 2 to 9, 2018). And here is why: Östersund will be hosting the Biathlon World Championships from March 7 to 17, 2019. Hence, the Slovenes will find some colsolation after Pokljuka was not chosen as World Cup venue by the IBU the year before. Nové Město too will be hostig again from December 20 to 23, 2018, after a one year break.

Set: Hochfilzen, Oberhof, Ruhpolding and Antholz

The most popular World Cup venues with the highest number of spectators are the four traditionally included locations in the German speaking area. After all, over 10,000 fans are usually seen cheering along the runs there every day. The athletes will come together in Hochfilzen, Tirol, between December 13 and 16, 2018. They proceed to Germany in January, with the first stop being Oberhof (January 10 to 13, 2019), followed by Ruhpolding (January 16 to 20, 2019). The biathlon brigade then goes straight on to South Tyrol, where they will be fighting to boost their World Cup scores in Antholz (January 24 to 27, 2019).

North America in February, Scandinavia in March

After World Cup races in Italy, the biathletes will hop on a plane to Canada. Runs will take place there in Canmore, from February 7 to 10, 2019. Crossing the US-border, the tour continues in Soldier Hollow, near Salt Lake City (February 14 to 17, 2019). Eventually, the World Championships held in Oestersund in March will be the season's highlight. The 10-day fight for gold, silver, and bronze medals starts on March 7, 2019. Lastly, Fourcade, Dahlmeier and co. come together one more time for the season's final at Oslo's Holmenkollen (March 21 to 24, 2019) to gain ultimate points for the World Cup.
