Intermediate skiers will be entertained by a total of 5 red and 5 black kilometers of trails at Ankogel Mallnitz. Thanks to its altitude, the upper portion of the ski area (1945m – 2636m) gets great snow all the way into the spring. We didn’t find a single trail between the upper terminal of the intermediate station of the Ankogelbahn II or off the Ankogel lifts that we didn’t find worth recommending. Even the black slopes up there were intermediate-friendly. The most challenging trail in the entire area is the no.2 (Ankogel-Talabfahrt) from the intermediate station. One drawback at the resort are the aging cable cars Ankogel I and II, so you’ll want to plan in a little waiting time at the base and intermediate stations. If after spending a day at Ankogel Mallnitz you feel the need for a little more variety, you can take a trip over to the Moelltaler Glacier, just a 30-minute drive from there.
