Ski Review 2022/2023: Touring Skis Men 1 - 83 to 88 mm

Whether you're a recreational tourer or an amateur athlete, if you don't fancy the hustle and bustle of the ski resorts, the touring category is the perfect match for you. Thanks to their moderate widths, the skis of the Men 1 category score with versatility and their low weight. They thus facilitate the ascent and still offer enough performance for sweeping descents. Here you can find out how the models were rated in the 2022/2023 WorldSkitest.

Versatile models for varied tours

The new models in the "Touring Men 1" category enable easy ascents and great downhill performance. They impress with their light weight and versatility. Whether you're planning a short tour at the end of the day or want to push yourself on long, demanding tours with lots of vertical meters, the new models are reliable companions for trips into nature.

With waist of up to 88 millimeters, they are true all-rounders that can also impress on the slopes. That's why they are increasingly being used as a second ski to an aggressive racer. Those looking for wider touring skis for deeper off-piste terrain should take a look at the models in the Touring category Men 2.

In this year's TouringSkitest on the Falkert in Carinthia, the handling of the skins was assessed in addition to the qualities on the ascent and the handling characteristics on the descent.

Target group: Touring skiers for whom an easy ascent is important and who love a corresponding downhill performance

The victory in the touring ski category Men 1 goes to the Atomic Backland 85 with great ratings in all areas. Especially in the handling of the skins, the model is unbeatable. The "Atomic PreFit" skins were praised by the testers in the highest tones. The price-performance ratio is also right.

Once again ending up on the podium is the Fischer Transalp 86 Carbon. With a total of 48.2 points, last year's winner has even improved in its ratings, but due to the strong competition it is "only" enough for second place this time. However, this should not diminish its performance in any way. This lightweight touring ski convinced the testers both on the ascent and the descent and left a very good overall impression.

Like last year, third place goes to Austrian manufacturer Hagan - this time with the somewhat narrower Hagan Core 84. This touring ski was also convincing across the board, especially in the handling of the skins and the overall impression. The testers also liked the design, which is why the Hagan Core 84 also gets the silver medal in SnowStyle in addition to bronze in Performance.
