    Excellent conditions for powder fans

The altitude of the ski area between 1,800 and 3,080 meters ensures great snow conditions and numerous freeride opportunities from November to April. Because of the location above the tree line, freeriders will find enough terrain right next to the groomed runs to indulge in powder extensively. Thus, no long climbs are necessary to reach the deep snow runs. Most of the runs can be reached comfortably with the lifts.

Freeride pros will find steep slopes and narrow gullies especially in the upper part of the ski area (both in Hochgurgl and Obergurgl), for example from the Wurmkogl, or the top station of the Top Schermerbahn 3000. Those who want to try their hand at their first powder runs are better off in the mid-altitude area. Here you will find open and extensive deep snow slopes that are only moderately steep and are well suited for a short detour off the groomed slopes. In the lower area of Obergurgl, cool tree runs also await in the forest-covered terrain.

The freeride routes in Obergurgl from the Festkogel to the Ferwalltal, from the Hohe Mut to the Rotmoostal or from Hochgurgl to the Königstal are also recommended. Since the opening of section 2 of the Kirchenkarbahn in 2018/19, there are even additional variant descents.

Since safety is paramount when venturing into the backcountry, there is also an Ortovox Training Park and avalanche beacon checks at several locations (Festkogl, Hohe Mut, Wurmkogl).
