The location of East Tyrol is very special. Located in the middle of the Alps, Sillian is often protected from precipitation. Only an Adriatic low brings snow to Alta Pusteria during the cold season. These snowfalls degenerated in the 2012/2013 season, when the white splendor piled up meters high. On the other hand, if no Adriatic lows form, it is possible that East Tyrol will be covered with snow only after many other regions.
Sillian Hochpustertal, with its slightly higher altitude than, for example, the Lienz ski areas of Zettersfeld and Hochstein, has a better situation, especially in terms of artificial snow. Here, the ski area is well equipped. Especially along the slopes to the valley there are permanently installed snow lances.
