Obertauern is one of the most snow-sure ski resorts in Austria, even without a glacier. Because Obertauern is not only the highest winter sports resort in the province of Salzburg, but also the winter sports resort with the most snow in Austria. Winter sports fun is usually guaranteed here from late November to mid-April, often even longer. Due to the special thermal conditions, however, it should be noted that during the winter often an icy wind blows in Obertauern, which can sometimes be very unpleasant at the high-altitude mountain stations.

If you go to Obertauern, you will still have good slopes at the end of the season. The area is located very high. This means that the snow conditions are good throughout the winter. Those who still want hard slopes in the afternoon should ski on the side of the Zehnerkarbahn.

In terms of snow safety, I can only award 5 of 5 stars. When we were in January 2018 there lay in the place piles snow and on the slopes of course as well. In the morning, the snow truck was made from the place to keep the roads and driveways free. Deep snow skiing without end!
