The best mountain for beginners in Lienz is the Zettersfeld area. Although you first have to climb almost 1,000 meters in altitude to reach the extensive snow basin, you then have a really wide range of snow-sure slopes between 1,660 and around 2,250 meters in front of you. Once at the top, you should first orient yourself to the right. Around the Wartschenbrunn 4-seater chairlift, in addition to easy downhill runs, there is also the small Kinderland and a Fun Area. The 6-seater chairlift Faschingsalm starts only a short distance away. The slopes are mostly marked blue or red and can be mastered by everyone. Especially the wide ski slopes number 1 and 8 are perfect for practicing and cruising. The slopes around the Steinermandl are mostly classified as red according to the trail map. However, the slopes are very wide, which means that even weaker skiers can manage.
Hochstein more demanding than Zettersfeld
Hochstein is certainly the more demanding of the two Lienz ski areas. However, there is also a nice practice slope around the middle station at an altitude of about 1,000 meters. In addition to a few places to stop for refreshments, the Osttirodler, a three-kilometer-long alpine coaster that is open all year round, also starts here. The upper part of the Hochstein area, on the other hand, is reserved for the better skiers.
The Lienz Dolomites Ski School and the Schlossberg Ski School offer appropriate courses for all skill levels and ages.
