Families will feel at home in Lienz. Although the city is not a typical family destination, there are still some points here that absolutely speak for a family vacation. Since East Tyrol is located relatively centrally in the Alps and therefore the journey is somewhat more difficult, there are mainly weekly vacationers here, which means that the slopes are not populated by day guests. Conversely, this means that the slopes are a bit quieter and there is more space for skiing. A big plus for families.
High up on the Zettersfeld
Although you first have to get up to the ski area as a family at Zettersfeld, once you reach the top you are well equipped. Ski rental, ski school, children's area, restaurants - all this can be found around the top station at Zettersfeld. The beginners' area starts right next to the gondola lift with a platter lift and a chair lift (Wartschenbrunnbahn), which is the best way to reach the small Kinderland or the Fun Area. The Funslope is usually a welcome change for the little ones. An advantage at Zettersfeld is that almost all slopes come back to the top station of the gondola lift. Thus, it is almost impossible to get lost.
Osttirodler is fun for families at Hochstein
There is also a small beginners' area at the top station of the gondola lift on Hochstein. While the parents sit in the sun at the Moosalm, the little ones can practice on the H5 practice lift. An absolute must during a family vacation in Lienz: a ride on the Alpine Coaster Osttirodler at the Hochstein.
